Desire for Greatness

Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Mark 10:42-45

American Idol is a cultural phenomenon to me. Every week I have watched thousands upon thousands of contestants come from all over the nation to pursue their "dreams." Dreams of fame, fortune and greatness. And every week I see people leave the show crying and shaking their heads saying things like..."This means everything to me," "I want to be famous," "I should be the next American Idol," etc. Yet, when I read Jesus words, He tells us exactly what to do in order to become "great" in His Kingdom and live a life of significance while on earth. Put simply, serve others.

If you truly want to fulfill that God given desire to be great, its time to start serving.
